DND 5th Edition

I've recently gotten access to the MMotM book and have been trying to figure out how to incorporate its entries based on earlier discussions. I've been using Fredbob's lineage page on the test page (linked here) and begun working on making new lineage pages for MMotM. I'll try to update my progress as I go, but hopefully it can be a template for others with the book who want to add other entries (and maybe even incorporating the lineage structure into the main page).

if anyone wants to also add pages for the updated linages, use the ones above as a template and reply to this with the links.

Looks good! I'll add the MMotM pages to the master lineage pages. I guess for subraces-turned-races (duergar, deep gnome, etc), I'll just make new master lineage pages? Feels weird to have it separated like that, but WoTC didn't give us much choice lol

Yeah, I guess so… they really kind of messed up any kind of organization system by doing that lol.

Should we move the old subrace page onto the new master lineage page you think? Then we could include a link to the new master lineage page on the original one?

So have a Duergar lineage page with the SCAG and MMotM details on it, then on the Dwarf page a link to the Duergar lineage page under a subheading of some sort.

Initially, I was thinking of having the new Lineages as completely separate from the original subrace it came from an just leaving the original subrace as its own thing (2 Duergar pages, but one is a master lineage page and the other is still linked under Dwarf). That could definitely become confusing, but as I see it, we have a few options for moving forwards.

1) New master pages for subraces as they're separated from their original lineage by new releases (meaning new master lineage pages for Deep Gnome, Duergar, Eladrin, the 4 Genasi, the 2 Gith, Sea Elf, and Shadar-Kai). Seems to be the current method.

• 1a) Keep the lineages separate from the original subrace (Dwarf will have the subrace Duergar, and there will be a separate Duergar master page with the MMotM version). Possibly have links in the pages to the other option (SCAG Duergar links to MMotM Duergar).
• 1b) Reformat the original subrace to match the new lineage (SCAG Duergar gets added to the Duergar master page and just copy-paste the Dwarf core features to that lineage). No linking required.

2) Just keep new lineages on the same page as their core page like our current Dragonborn page (MMotM Deep Gnomes still listed under Gnomes, all of the elf subraces still listed under Elf, etc). Not a fan of this method since the pages can get bloated and confused (looking at you Dragonborn page), but an option nonetheless.

3) No subrace pages, make new master pages for every subrace. Take the reformatting from option 1 and apply it to every subrace to make them their own lineages. Future-proofs if this is how WotC treats races/lineages moving forwards and keeps the pages limited to just the single lineage option, but a lot of work and a lot of copying information (every elf subrace has the same core elf features, etc).

• 3a) Keep old and new versions on the same page (Duergar master page will have the lineages for the SCAG and MMotM Duergar)
• 3b) Separate all races/lineages by source book. No more "Common/Exotic/Monstrous" distinction, just list them like the Setting Specific races (DMG has Dragonborn, Dwarf, Elf, Gnome, Half-Elf, Half-Orc, Halfling, Human, and Tiefling. Volo's has Goblin, Kobold, etc). Problem of subraces vs lineages still present and would clutter the main page, but keeping it confined to the sourcebooks could reduce the issue of reformatting based on future books.

4) Just make MMotM lineage pages quarantined to their own section like the Plane Shift or Setting-Specific races. Treat them like something completely separate. Easiest solution to implement, but a temporary fix that potentially creates problems for us moving forwards if WotC uses the MMotM format moving forwards.

Of the options, I'm a fan of either 1b or 3a (which are basically the same except 3a requires us to make new master lineage pages for every subrace while 1b just has us deal with problems as they arise). However we want to do it moving forwards, I'll keep making lineage pages for the MMotM options like I have been and we'll format it accordingly.

My vote would be for 1b; it's pretty close to what I said above.

Sounds good. All of the MMotM lineage pages have been made, all that's left is to add them to the main lineage page and then modify the master lineage pages to link subraces to the lineage rather than the original race (including the info for the original race so it's the complete info). I'll work on it when I've got the time, but I've got other projects to work on. Glad the pages are finished so we can have the MMotM info on the site!

Alright, I've begun trying to implement the MMotM pages in the Lineages page, and I've begun to run into issues. At the moment, I'm just trying to get the Duergar page to work, and here's what's causing problems (since the wording can get confusing, I'll be referring to the Duergar subrace from SCAG as the Duergar Subrace page, the Duergar lineage from MMotM as the Duergar Lineage page, and the main page that houses both as the Duergar Master page).

1) The original Subrace page only had some of the information needed to make it a stand-alone lineage (partial ability score increase info, none of the Dwarf features, just had what distinguished the Duergar from Hill and Mountain Dwarves). I added the other info from the main Dwarf page and tried to format it in a way that made sense (replacing Darkvision with Superior Darkvision, putting Dwarven Resilience and Duergar Resilience next to each other, etc), but tried to keep the format as simple as possible.

2) The Subrace page was titled as lineage:dwarf-duergar. I retitled it to lineage:duergar-scag to keep the formatting consistent. This will be annoying to format throughout (especially where links apply), but should be worthwhile. As far as I can tell, it only impacts:

• The primary Lineage page that houses all lineages
• The Dwarf Master page that housed the Duergar subrace (the subrace has since been removed, but its original formatting can be seen by looking at the page's history)

3) A Duergar Master page has been created to house both of the Duergar lineages. Since they have different flavor text, there is nothing to precede the SCAG Duergar entry. Not an issue, just a matter of formatting.

4) On the primary Lineage page, I was planning on moving the Duergar to the Exotic Lineages page as MMotM lists its entries as "Fantastical Races" and Exotic seemed close enough. However, the formatting of that section (Title of Lineage and variants in Origin and source in Source) isn't conducive to distinguishing the Duergar entries. Unlike, for example, the Aasimar, there aren't titles to be given to the Duergar variants (Aasimar has Protector, Scourge, and Fallen, Duergar just has difference in sources), and since the Sources aren't lined up correctly, I don't know how to distinguish the Subrace and Lineage pages. At the moment, I am refraining from adding a source title and just using the sources to differentiate the entries, but ideas on how to differentiate between Subraces and Lineages (especially varying Lineages like we'll have to do for the Genasi/Gith) would be appreciated. I imagine this will be a problem requiring us to alter how we lay out the pages.

Hopefully none of my tampering has impacted the main page and just impacts the behind-the-scenes Lineage page, but I felt like I should let y'all know what I'm messing with as I figure out how to format things. Here's the pages I've messed with in case anything needs to be reverted/reviewed:

• Lineage Master Page (Duergar Subrace removed from Dwarf Lineage, Duergar Master Page added to Exotic Lineages and variants added as bullet points)
• Dwarf Master Page (Duergar removed as a subrace)
• Duergar Master Page (page created)
• Duergar: SCAG (page retitled from "lineage:dwarf-duergar" to "lineage:duergar-scag" and reformatted to include core Dwarf features)

At the moment I'm not extremely concerned with the main lineage page, I created that just to test things out and just decided to keep going. The primary reasoning that I finished it was to try and keep the Orphaned Pages list relatively short.

I'm good with how those changes ended up for Duergar, imagine most of the newly christened lineages will require similar changes. Most of the work on these lineage pages was done prior to MMotM so I'm not surprised we need to make some changes.

Nothing is going to affect the main page at the moment, that still links to the old race pages that weren't under a category. I only updated the test page with the Lineage links. I'll wait until all these changes are done (I'll try and help as I can) before updating the main page with all the lineage stuff.

Gotcha. I've been working through a bit of the lineages (avoiding the tricky ones or writing little notes where I'm not sure how to solve stuff), but progress seems good. I'll make a new list down here of what's been worked on.

Only new question is what to do about the previously setting-specific lineages? Changelings and Shifters have been made available to other worlds, so I guess we should move them to Exotic Lineages? Not a huge issue, just something to bring up.
